Step-by-step: download invoices from DigitalOcean

  1. 1

Open the Billing page in your DigitalOcean control panel

Sign in at cloud.digitalocean.com and click your avatar in the top-right, then Billing. Direct URL is cloud.digitalocean.com/account/billing. If you belong to more than one team, make sure the correct team is selected in the team switcher.

  2. 2

    Scroll to Billing history

The Billing history table on that page lists every invoice and payment, newest first. Each row shows the billing period, amount, and a download icon. DigitalOcean closes the billing period on the last day of the month and usually posts the invoice within 24 to 48 hours.

  3. 3

Download the PDF for each invoice you need

Click the download icon (small cloud-arrow) on the right side of the row. The PDF opens in a new tab. Save it with a filename that includes the month and DigitalOcean team name, so your accountant can sort them later.

About DigitalOcean billing

DigitalOcean is one of the less punitive cloud portals to use manually. The billing page is clean, downloads work, and the monthly invoice actually resembles a normal invoice.

The problem only shows up once you start managing more than one DigitalOcean team, or once the number of months you need to round up climbs past a year.

If you pay for DigitalOcean with prepaid credits, reconciliation gets tricky. The invoice shows usage charges, but your actual card-side activity is the credit top-up, not the monthly invoice. Keep a note of this for your accountant so they do not try to match each invoice to a charge on your bank statement.

About DigitalOcean

DigitalOcean was founded in 2012 and built a reputation for simple, predictable cloud pricing aimed at developers and small teams. Its core products are Droplets (VMs), Managed Databases, Spaces (object storage), Kubernetes, and App Platform. The 2023 acquisition of Paperspace added GPU infrastructure, though Paperspace billing remains separate. Billing is monthly and primarily card-based, with invoiced billing available for high-spend accounts on request.

Manual vs automated

Manual

  • Log in to DigitalOcean
  • Switch to each team
  • Open Billing history
  • Click download icon on each row
  • Save PDF with a clean filename
  • Repeat every month for every team

Automated with Inbox Ledger

  • Connect DigitalOcean once to Inbox Ledger
  • Every team's invoices land in one dashboard
  • Export to Drive, Sheets, or accounting tools

Why people stop doing this by hand

Running one DigitalOcean team with a credit card and an accountant who just wants monthly PDFs? Manual is fine, and the email-recipients setting gets you most of the way there.

Agencies running 10 client teams, or startups with a personal account plus a company account plus a side-project team, are the ones writing Python scripts at month-end to pull invoices from the API. That is the point where automating wins.

DigitalOcean is one of the portals our Chrome Extension auto-detects. Install it, visit the Billing page, and the extension collects new invoices across your teams while you work. No API token, no script.

Next step

One team, one card, one accountant, email recipients configured: you may not need anything more. Any variation on that theme ("we also have a separate agency team", "I manage three client accounts", "the old company account still has invoices we need") is where Inbox Ledger pays off.

Quick access

Jump straight to the DigitalOcean billing page in a new tab.

Open DigitalOcean billing

Where to look in the dashboard

  • Account → Billing is the main location
  • Account → Billing → Payment methods manages cards
  • Team switcher in the top nav changes which team's billing you see
  • Settings → Billing → Email recipients controls who gets invoices automatically
  • Paperspace billing lives separately at paperspace.com/account

Before you start — quick checklist

  • Your team name, not your personal Droplet name, is on the invoice
  • Billing address on the PDF matches your tax registration
  • Droplets, volumes, load balancers, Spaces, and Managed Databases are all reflected
  • VAT or GST appears if your country requires it (DigitalOcean charges VAT for EU customers)
  • Any account credits or referral bonuses are shown as a discount line

Pro tips

  • If you run multiple DigitalOcean teams (common for agencies and freelancers), every team has its own Billing page. Each one issues separate invoices. Do not stop at the first team.
  • DigitalOcean occasionally adjusts the billing history UI. If you do not see a download icon, try the three-dot menu on the row.
  • Prepaid credits show as a separate balance, not as a discount on the invoice. Check both the Credits section and the invoice PDF when reconciling.
  • Turn on PDF invoice emails under Settings → Billing so the invoices arrive in your accountant's inbox without anyone having to fetch them.
  • DigitalOcean Paperspace (acquired in 2023) has a separate billing system at paperspace.com. If you use both, you need to download from each portal.
