Step-by-step: download invoices from Akamai Linode

  1. 1

Sign in to the Linode Cloud Manager

Go to cloud.linode.com and sign in. If you are on a shared account via the Users system, your access to billing depends on whether you have the Account (owner) role. Restricted users do not see billing at all. Owner role is required.

  2. 2

    Open Account → Billing

Click your profile in the top-right or use the left sidebar to navigate to Account. Then click the Billing tab. You see the current balance, payment method, and Billing and Payment History at the bottom of the page.

  3. 3

    Download each invoice as PDF

In the Billing and Payment History table, each invoice row has a PDF icon. Click it to download the PDF. Linode (now Akamai Linode) closes the billing period on the first of the month and generates invoices on the same day, so they are usually available faster than AWS or GCP.

About Akamai Linode billing

Linode has always been the developer-friendly alternative to AWS for VPS-style workloads. The Cloud Manager UI is clean, the billing page is easy to find, and downloads work without drama. The complication is more subtle: Akamai bought Linode in 2022, and now invoices arrive under a different vendor name.

Since the Akamai acquisition, Linode invoices are issued by Akamai Technologies, Inc. If your accountant sorts vendors alphabetically or uses strict name matching, make sure your chart of accounts has the current vendor entry. Legacy "Linode" entries still on file will cause reconciliation confusion.

About Akamai Linode

Linode was founded in 2003 as one of the earliest independent VPS providers and built a loyal developer base on flat-rate Linode Compute plans. Akamai acquired it in 2022, folding Linode into Akamai Connected Cloud alongside Akamai's edge CDN and security products. The product lineup covers Compute, Object Storage, NodeBalancers, Managed Databases, Kubernetes, and Backups. Billing is calendar-month with automatic card charges on the first of each month.

Manual vs automated

Manual

  • Sign in to Linode Cloud Manager
  • Open Account, go to Billing tab
  • Click PDF icon on each invoice row
  • Save with consistent filename
  • Track down Object Storage line items in separate months
  • File each month manually

Automated with Inbox Ledger

  • Connect Linode once to Inbox Ledger
  • Invoices land in your dashboard automatically
  • Export to Drive, Sheets, or accounting tools

Why people stop doing this by hand

One Linode running a VPS and nothing else, with the billing email going to the right person: manual download is fine. The teams that benefit from automation are the ones with a spread of Linode Compute instances, Object Storage buckets, NodeBalancers, and managed databases across multiple accounts (production, staging, client work), all billing in parallel.

Linode's API does support an invoices endpoint, so scripted retrieval is possible if you have developer time. Most finance teams prefer to skip that work entirely.

Linode does not yet have Chrome Extension support in Inbox Ledger, but the OAuth-free email forwarding path works well: route Linode's monthly billing emails to your Inbox Ledger forwarding address and the PDFs are captured automatically. Optionally add API-based sync for richer history.

Next step

Single Linode account with one VPS: stay manual. Multiple accounts, client-isolated production setups, or any agency model where you manage Linode for several companies: connect once, let the invoices flow in.

Pro tips

  • Linode was acquired by Akamai in 2022. Invoices now come from Akamai Technologies, Inc. File under Akamai rather than Linode if your accountant sorts strictly by vendor name.
  • Billing cycle is the calendar month (1st to last day), which is friendlier than anniversary-based cycles. Invoices generate on the 1st.
  • You can add multiple users to the Account Viewer role if you want bookkeepers to see billing without letting them launch Linodes.
  • Linode's billing emails go to the primary email on the account. Additional billing recipients can be added under Account → Users.
  • Object Storage usage is billed by region and includes transfer. If you use Object Storage heavily, expect usage lines separate from your Linode compute charges.
