Step-by-step: download invoices from Google Ads
- 1
Open the Billing summary in Google Ads
Sign in at ads.google.com, click the Tools icon in the top navigation, then choose Billing → Summary. If you manage multiple accounts through an MCC, switch to the client account first using the account picker in the top-right.
- 2
Go to Documents to see issued invoices
In the Billing section, click Documents. You will see a table of invoices, statements, and adjustments. Use the date filter to narrow down the month or quarter you need.
- 3
Download each invoice as PDF
Click the document number to open the invoice, then use the Download button. For CSV summary of the table, use the download icon above the list. That export does not include the actual PDFs.
- 4
Save the files where your accountant expects them
Rename each PDF with a consistent pattern (date plus account ID plus amount) so you can match them later to bank statements. One folder per quarter keeps sanity intact.
About Google Ads billing
Google Ads will happily spend your budget. Getting the invoices back out for your accountant is a separate job entirely.
If you run campaigns across several accounts, through an MCC, or across multiple legal entities, the monthly hunt for PDFs eats real time. Each account keeps its invoices in its own Documents page, and none of them talk to each other.
Only accounts on monthly invoicing generate formal invoices. Accounts on automatic card payments get receipts, which many accountants will reject at tax time. If your invoices look like receipts, check your payment setup in Billing → Settings and consider switching.
About Google Ads
Google Ads is the advertising platform run by Google LLC, part of Alphabet Inc. It powers search, display, YouTube, Shopping, and Performance Max campaigns for millions of advertisers. Billing happens per account, with invoices issued either monthly (for invoiced accounts) or as receipts (for automatic payment accounts). MCC (My Client Center) accounts add another layer: invoices live on each client account, not on the MCC itself. Agencies managing 20 or 30 clients know this pain intimately.
Manual vs automated
Manual
- Sign in to Google Ads with 2FA
- Switch to the right account under your MCC
- Open Tools → Billing → Documents
- Filter by date range
- Download each PDF one at a time
- Rename and file by entity and month
Automated with Inbox Ledger
- Connect Google Ads once in Inbox Ledger
- New invoices appear in your dashboard automatically
- Export to Drive, Sheets, or your accounting system
Why people stop doing this by hand
One account is fine. Five accounts across three entities, every month, forever, is not.
The CSV export gives you a table but not the PDFs, and the PDFs are what the accountant needs for the audit trail. The Google Ads API technically exposes billing data but requires developer time to wire up. If you run an agency or a holding company with campaigns on multiple client accounts, the math gets ugly fast. That is the moment people either hire an ops person or automate it.
Google Ads is one of the portals our Chrome Extension auto-detects. Install it, visit your Billing Documents page, and the extension collects new invoices in the background. No OAuth, no MCC switching scripts, no forgotten client accounts.
Next step
If you run one Google Ads account and never plan to scale, downloading manually is survivable. If the words "quarter-end" make you tired already, connect Google Ads to Inbox Ledger once and let new invoices show up on their own.
Where to look in the dashboard
- Tools → Billing → Summary is the main billing hub
- Tools → Billing → Documents is where invoices live
- Tools → Billing → Transactions shows individual charges and receipts
- MCC accounts require switching to the client account before invoices are visible
Before you start — quick checklist
- Account name and billing address match your legal entity
- Tax ID or VAT number is printed on the invoice if required in your country
- Amounts match what Google charged your payment method
- Invoice covers the correct billing period, not a partial month
- The document is a finalized invoice, not a payment receipt or statement
Pro tips
- If you run multiple Google Ads accounts under an MCC, each account has its own Documents page. Switch accounts, do not merge.
- Invoices only appear for monthly invoicing setups. Accounts on automatic card payments get receipts, not formal invoices. Check the Transactions page for those.
- Your tax ID needs to be added before an invoice is issued. Adding it later will not retroactively fix past invoices.
- Use the Promotions view if a credit was applied. The invoice breaks out the credit separately from the charge.
- Bookmark the Documents URL directly. The Billing UI moves around more often than you would expect.
