Step-by-step: download invoices from Anthropic

  1. 1

Sign in to the Anthropic Console

Go to console.anthropic.com and sign in. If you belong to multiple organizations, use the organization switcher in the top-left corner to pick the one that owns billing. Usage lives under one org, invoices under the same one.

  2. 2

    Open Billing in Settings

Click Settings in the left sidebar, then Billing. The direct URL is console.anthropic.com/settings/billing. Scroll down to the "Invoices" section to see the list of issued invoices with dates and amounts.

  3. 3

    Download each invoice PDF

Click the download icon next to each invoice row. Anthropic invoices are generated through Stripe, so the PDF layout is the standard Stripe invoice template with Anthropic as the seller. Grab every row you need for the period.

  4. 4

Add your tax ID before the next cycle if you have not

Back on the Billing page, look for "Billing information" and add your VAT, GST, or ABN. Future invoices will include it. Past invoices need a support request to be reissued with the correct tax line.

About Anthropic billing

Anthropic makes Claude. The Console makes it easy to try Claude. Getting a year of invoices out of the Console and into your accounting system is its own little project.

If you use the Claude API in production, invoices land on one page and stay there. They do not march into your inbox folder labeled and ready to file. That part is on you.

Anthropic is moving most new organizations to a prepaid credit model. This means your invoice is for the credit top-up amount, not for usage consumed. If your accountant needs an invoice that matches a specific usage period, download the Usage CSV from the Console and pair it with the credit invoice that funded that period.

About Anthropic

Anthropic is an AI safety company founded in 2021, headquartered in San Francisco. It builds the Claude family of large language models and sells API access through console.anthropic.com, plus standalone products like Claude Pro and Claude for Work. This page covers API billing via the Console. The consumer Claude Pro subscription has a different billing flow handled through Stripe email receipts.

Manual vs automated

Manual

  • Sign in to the Anthropic Console
  • Switch to the right organization
  • Open Settings and Billing
  • Click download on each invoice
  • Save tax invoices separately
  • Email the folder to your accountant

Automated with Inbox Ledger

  • Connect Anthropic once in Inbox Ledger
  • New invoices land in your dashboard automatically
  • Export to Drive, Sheets, or your accounting system

Why people stop doing this by hand

One Claude API project with steady monthly usage is fine. A studio running six client orgs, an internal eval org, and a sandbox is not. Prepaid credits mean each top-up generates its own invoice, so a busy month produces four or five PDFs per organization and you have to remember which project each belongs to.

The Anthropic Console does not merge invoices across organizations and the API does not expose PDF downloads, so there is no shortcut built in.

Anthropic is one of the portals our Chrome Extension auto-detects. Install it, visit the Billing page, and the extension captures new invoices in the background. No API token setup, no forwarding address, no monthly reminder to click through each org.

Next step

If you run one Anthropic organization and top up once a month, manual is fine. If you run more than one org or fund credits on an irregular schedule, connect Anthropic to Inbox Ledger once and let every new invoice land where the rest of your records live.

Where to look in the dashboard

  • Settings → Billing is the main location for invoices and payment methods
  • Settings → Members controls who can see invoices versus just usage
  • Usage page shows daily spend by model, useful for budget alerts
  • Billing information section is where tax ID, legal entity, and billing email get configured

Before you start — quick checklist

  • Invoice total matches the usage total on your billing overview
  • Company legal entity name is on the invoice, not a personal email address
  • VAT, GST, or equivalent tax ID appears on the line items for applicable jurisdictions
  • Prepaid credit top-ups are saved separately from monthly usage invoices
  • The PDF is finalized, not a preview or a draft

Pro tips

  • Anthropic bills by model tier (Claude Haiku, Sonnet, Opus) within one invoice. You do not get a separate invoice per model.
  • If your org uses prepaid credits, each credit purchase generates its own invoice. Do not wait for a monthly summary that is not coming.
  • Workbench testing counts toward billable usage. Heavy prompt engineering sessions show up on the invoice.
  • Only users with Admin or Billing roles see invoices. Developer and Member roles see usage but not PDFs.
  • Add a secondary billing contact in Settings so the AP inbox gets a copy, not just the founder who set up the account.
